Listen to Sukraam Bhaiya who lives in the heart of one of India’s tiger reserves. He explains why his tribe, the Baiga, are the best conservationists and how they care for the environment better than anyone else. The government is planning to evict them, but the Baiga are determined to stay on the land where they have always lived and that they have always protected. They say there is no life for them outside their ancestral home: the forest.
India’s Forest Department says that humans and animals cannot coexist. It is a con and it is harming conservation. The Baiga know that the jungle and the tribes cannot survive without each other: “If we leave, who will protect the forest?”
Urge India to stop evictions from tiger reserves: for tribes, for nature, for all humanity.
