Watch Julio Cusurichi call for uncontacted tribes to be protected in Peru. Julio is a leader of the Shipibo tribe, and president of the indigenous organization FENAMAD.
In Peru, a reserve for uncontacted tribes is being extended. But loggers are still allowed inside the territory, increasing the risk of forced contact. This is always fatal and initiating contact must be the Indians’ choice alone.
Uncontacted tribes live throughout the region, well beyond the borders of the reserve. The region is called the Amazon Uncontacted Frontier and it straddles the borders of Peru and Brazil.
The uncontacted tribes in the Frontier face catastrophe unless all of their lands are protected.
